In 1845 the Rev. Allen Lincoln came to Gray Maine as pastor of the Congregational Church. Soon after his arrival, he went over the town and took a census of the families in town. I took a copy from the original which was in the possession of Mrs. Florence Hunt Nelson. It is evident that he either did not take it [the census] in West Gray or Dutton Hill or else those papers were lost.
