In 1828 the first Parish building (1774) located in the center of the village was removed to make way for the new Portland Road. In 1828 a new Congregational church was built on this site. Torn down in 1900 due to structural decay and replaced with the present-day structure this church is known as the First Congregational Church of Gray.
