Gray Village Cemetery

Gray Village Cemetery is the largest in town and the only one in active use. It was opened in 1784, records of town historian George Hill state, when Daniel Libby, a prominent businessman here at the time, deeded to the town three acres of land for the site of the Parish Church house and a cemetery adjacent. With just over 5,600 burials as of 2024, much of the town’s history can be traced to “citizens” of Gray Village Cemetery.

Those interested in researching family origins via the Gray Village Cemetery are encouraged to enjoy a virtual visit via Find a Grave [FG]. Using FG search tools, finding family members sharing a plot is a fairly simple task. In addition, contributors may add photos and/or contact memorial managers to update vital statistics and biographic data on each individual. More recently, GHS and GCA volunteers have focused on capturing GPS coordinates for each memorial. Now, using the FG phone app, visitors can easily search for burials on the virtual website AND navigate directly to the plot location within the cemetery.

More information including burial reports, maps, and historical data is available on the Gray Cemetery Association website.
